West Green Club, an organization of 30 students at Madison West High School committed to advancing sustainability initiatives in our school and local community, hosted an electronic waste recycling drive this past Saturday, April 22, 2017 on Earth Day and in conjunction with Goodwill. A biannual event, West Green Club’s electronic-waste recycling drive provides Madison residents with the opportunity to drop off computers and computer-related equipment for recycling and donate to support West Green Club’s and Madison West High School’s sustainability projects.
At our spring event, West Green Club helped 104 Madison residents (including 38 Madison West High School families and staff) recycle 290 electronic devices and over 4500 pounds of electronic-waste, while raising $1233 to fund our ongoing sustainability projects, including a solar panel expansion project. Combined with the success of our event from the past fall semester, West Green Club has recycled nearly 9000 pounds of electronics from over 190 individuals and raised $2500 this year alone.
West Green Club will be hosting another electronic-waste recycling drive in fall 2017 (likely in October or November). If you would like more information about our sustainability projects, please visit our website at www.westgreenclub.org.
